Hey Veylo Support
Hey Veylo is a tiny animated pet that lives in the notch at the top of your screen. No notch? Veylo draws its own. Here is how to get the most out of it.
Questions, ideas, or something not working?
Hey Veylo is made by Corbin Tucker, an independent developer in Georgia, USA.
What You Need
- Any Mac with macOS Sonoma 14 or later.
- On a MacBook with a notch, Veylo lives in the notch.
- On any other Mac, Veylo draws its own notch at the top center of the main screen. At rest it tucks away while an app is in full screen.
Getting Started
- Hover: move the pointer onto the notch and pause for a moment. The face drops down to greet you, and tucks back up when you move away.
- Boop: click the face. Poke one eye and that eye squeezes shut.
- Squeeze: press and hold on the face, then let go.
- Pet: rub the pointer back and forth across the face.
- Tickle: scribble quickly over the face.
- Pounce: hold the pointer still just below the black drop and wait a moment.
- Settings: click the face icon in the menu bar. Right-click the icon, or the face itself, for a quick menu.
Common Questions
I don’t see Veylo when I hover.
Pause on the notch for a moment. A quick sweep across the menu bar is ignored on purpose, so the face doesn’t pop out every time you pass by. When a MacBook is closed and connected to another display, Veylo moves to a drawn notch on that display.
Can’t find the face icon in the menu bar? When the menu bar is crowded, macOS can hide some icons. Open Hey Veylo again from your Applications folder: it pops out to greet you and opens Settings. You can also right-click the face.
How do I get it to pounce?
With the face out, hold the pointer still just below the bottom edge of the black drop, near the middle, for about a second without clicking or typing. Its eyes go wide, it crouches and wiggles, then it leaps. Leave the pointer where it is and it catches it. Pull away before it leaps and it lets out a disappointed little sigh.
For another pounce, move the pointer away and back. It rests a few seconds between pounces, and after four in a minute it needs a short break. Late at night it is too sleepy and falls short.
What does it get up to when I’m not looking?
When it thinks nobody is looking, Veylo practices faces in an imaginary mirror, plays with its eyes, or peeks out the window. Now and then you open the notch and catch it in the act: it freezes, then whistles innocently or gives you a guilty smile. Late at night you might catch it dozing.
With Always Show on, it happens while the pointer has rested far from the notch for a while. Move toward it and it freezes. Move the pointer somewhere far off and it stops to listen. It is rare on purpose, never more than twice an hour. To turn it off, turn off Little Scenes in Settings.
Why did the notch open by itself?
That’s Veylo peeking out the window. Once in a while, at most once a day and only between 7 AM and 10 PM, it opens the notch for a few seconds while you are using your Mac away from it. Head toward it and it ducks back out of sight.
It never does this with Always Show on, while an app is in full screen, or with Reduce Motion turned on in Accessibility settings. Turning off Little Scenes or Wake-Up Hellos stops it too.
What are Trackpad Taps?
On a trackpad with haptic feedback, you can feel Veylo as you play: a tap when you boop it, a firm thump when you squeeze it or its pounce catches the pointer, little taps as it giggles, and a soft purr while you pet it. Only what you do is felt, never anything it does on its own, and nothing while it is tucked away. A mouse doesn’t feel anything.
To turn them off, turn off Trackpad Taps in Settings.
Why does it react when my Mac switches between Light and Dark?
When your Mac switches to Dark in the evening, Veylo watches the sun go down and snuggles in. Switch to Light in the morning and it squints into the sunrise. Switch to Dark at any other hour and it wonders who turned out the lights.
If it is tucked away, a sunset or sunrise between 7 AM and 10 PM can bring it out to see, while you are at your Mac. Otherwise it saves the moment for your next visit. Turn off Wake-Up Hellos and it won’t pop out for these.
Why does it act differently at different times of day?
Veylo follows the clock: bright in the morning, a dip after lunch, heavy-lidded late at night, and a little slower on weekend mornings. The first hello of the day fits the hour, and up to four small moments a day mark the hours, like lunch or a cozy evening sigh. Up past 12:30 AM? It wonders why you are still up, then keeps you company.
It’s quiet most of the time. Is that normal?
Yes. Veylo is calm by design: most of the time it rests, blinks, and watches, and its bigger moments are rare and spaced well apart.
How do I keep it out all the time?
Turn on Always Show in Settings, or right-click the face and choose Always Show. With Always Show on, it follows along while you type, and when you step away it gets sleepy and dozes off. Touch the keyboard or trackpad to wake it.
How do I start Veylo when I log in?
Turn on Open at Login in Settings. If macOS asks you to allow it, Veylo opens System Settings to the Login Items list for you.
It’s sulking and won’t look at me.
Too many boops in a row will do that. Pet it, tickle it, or give it a squeeze to make up, or leave it be for a minute and it will get over it.
Can I turn off the sneezes and hiccups?
Yes. Turn off Little Scenes in Settings. That also turns off its secret life and its peeks out the window. Pouncing always works.
Why does it pop out when I open my Mac?
That’s Wake-Up Hellos: Veylo comes out to greet you when your Mac wakes, unlocks, or starts charging, and to catch a sunset or sunrise. You can turn it off in Settings.
How do I quit Veylo?
Right-click the menu bar icon or the face and choose Quit Veylo, or use the Quit Veylo button in Settings.
Does Veylo use my camera, microphone, or internet?
No. Veylo has no access to the camera, the microphone, or the internet, and it collects no data. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I uninstall it?
Turn off Open at Login if you turned it on, quit Veylo, then drag Hey Veylo from your Applications folder to the Trash.
